Tribute to my sweet girl Goo who taught me how to be a doggie mom...

I adopted Goo from the Brittany Foundation back in March of 1996. When I was initially exploring dog adoption, I was totally afraid of the idea of adopting a Pitbull/American Staffordshire Terrier because I had, at the time, a two-year-old niece. I was afraid this breed would be unpredictable with kids and adults. When I walked up to the adoption site, before I knew it, I had a six-month old American Staff puppy sitting on my lap. I sat there for two hours with her just sleeping there. I knew she had come from an unfortunate living situation and was not in good spirits. I felt a real connection with this dog. I went to talk with my friend at the adoption site about my apprehension with adopting a Pitbull. She assured me that these are the greatest dogs on the planet and with love, attention, and some focused training she would be amazing. She did warn me that many tend to be dog aggressive and I would need to socialize her and use common sense when approaching any new dog. Well, I followed my heart, took her advice and filled out the application. I quickly learned how special these breeds are and just how much they can reach their full potential, as in any dog or cat, with the proper love & care. I was blessed with a dog who gave me, all my friends and family and countless “strangers" on the street the gift of her amazing spirit and unconditional love. Goo literally helped many people get over their fear of dogs as she looked them in the eye and made them trust her with her loving soulful gaze. Goo transitioned/passed on April 12, 2008. Thank you Goo for being such an incredible gift.
